Thalassa – Goa

Cuisine: Greek, Mediterranean, Sea Food

If history is to be believed then it is said that it was Archestratos in 320 B.C. who wrote the first cookbook in history. Ancient Greek cuisine was characterized by its frugality and was founded on the “Mediterranean triad”: wheat, olive oil, and wine, with meat being rarely eaten and fish being more common. With that said, I’m going to take you through one amazing place I happened to find during my recent visit to Goa.

Perched on a hilltop, overlooking the magnificent Indian Ocean and picturesque small Vagator beach lies Thalassa. Not just a Greek taverna in Goa, but a hotel too, “Thalassa” translates directly to “The Sea” in English. Dressed in white, “Thalassa” gently leans over the cliff and gazes upon the Ozran beach below.

Drop dead gorgeous view from Thalassa

The beautiful entrance of Thalassa

In one lifetime, there are so many things to do, aren’t they? Now before I delve into philosophy, I’d just say that new places and new cuisines are probably the only two things that keep me on my toes! Although there is no dearth of places to eat in Goa and neither was trying out the Greek cuisine, really ever on my bucket-list, I sure felt it be different than usual and somehow intrigued me to try out ALL the cuisines. From salads to seafood, the widespread list of delicacies was overwhelming. So we decided to go for whatever the Chef recommended.

For drinks, we went with a Fruit Punch Mocktail, the taste of which was just refreshing from the Goan heat!

Moving on to the feast, as I was probably just looking for a light snack, I ended up having a Thalassa Special Salad. (knowing that I would regret not eating much here) :P

Thalassa Special Salad

Talking of a variety of veggies & salad, each marinated with a special sauce, fills my mouth with saliva instantly. While one sauce would be sweet, the other will surely surprise you with its salty taste. With a mix and match of them all in one plate, only a mouthwatering dish can be created and their chef sure knows how to do that pretty well!

Feasting on some great food with a view to die for!

Beautiful Greek White Interiors

From the famous Souvlaki wraps, Kleftiko, the traditional Greek salad (Horiatiki) to the fresh and beautiful seafood preparations, dining here is sheer joy. The grill at Thalassa is especially well known for its juicy, succulent and tasty kebabs, steaks and whole fish offerings. Each portion befitting a feast spread. The wine, spirits, and cocktails blend perfectly with the ambience of Thalassa.

The design and ambience of Thalassa transport you to Greece instantly with its white decor, terrazzo flooring, rustic wooden shelters and cane furniture. A day or evening spent here is nothing short of sweet bliss.

That’s a wrap on this wonderful little gem I found. Greek decors, a romantic ambience, a variety of lip-smacking dishes and more than sufficient portions. What more could you ask for? In short, a classy experience! Undoubtedly, one of the great food experiences I’ve had in a long time.

I have a piece of advice for you,

1. Do not miss the sunset here. Even better, get yourself a date. It’s THAT beautiful! :)

2. Make a reservation in advance to get a table, else it’s pointless coming all the way over here only to go back with disappointment!

Oh and that's me, posing outside one of their rooms. Apologies for not mentioning this before that you can stay here as well. I get carried away when I see food :P
